The Best Chinese Food in St Louis

We invited family, neighbors and friends to join us in celebrating our daughters 18th birthday. She isn't a party-goer but she enjoys having friends around for dinner.  She also loves to try foods from all corners of the globe. The family often send out for a pizza and we regularly order takeaway food from the local Indian restaurant, however, this birthday feast was set to be different as a few party guests were vegetarian and a couple were vegan. Now, we have entertained vegetarians before but we personally have never cooked or eaten vegan cuisine. We talked about the vegan diet, explored vegan foods, studied vegan recipes then decided to book a table at the new Chinese vegan restaurant in St Louis.

As Soulard restaurants go, the eatery had gained a great reputation; in fact, some local diners had declared they served the best Chinese food in St Louis and surrounding areas. A plate full of veggies or a nut roast goes down well once in a while but would we really enjoy our vegan dinner? After all, what does the average vegan eat and what makes a vegan takeaway taste better than a good old beef chow Mein and chips?

As the waiter showed us to our table you could see this was no ordinary dining establishment. If anything, this was one of the best vegan restaurants in Soulard. Veganism and healthy food go hand in hand so we were prepared to read a menu filled with unique and tasty, if not slightly unusual veggie dishes. So, what was on the Chinese menu?

Chinese takeaway menus always seem to read much the same, so, you choose your favorite dish, order the meal online, pay by credit card and the hot food is delivered to your door. So, how does a vegan Chinese food restaurant menu compare?

Tasty appetizers on offer included vegetable steamed dumplings, veggie spring rolls and hot sesame noodles. Tofu is the vegan staple used instead of meat and fish but the menu proffered still looked pretty tempting. Guests could enjoy garlic tofu, Kung Pao tofu, cashew tofu, sweet and sour tofu or tofu and broccoli. The vegetable chow Mein looked good, as did the tofu fried rice and vegetable steamed rice. In no time, shiny silver serving dishes laden with a veritable feast of vegan eats covered the surface of the smart wooden dining table. But did the healthy food taste as good as it looked? Visit us here.

People have long complained of the lack of vegan and vegetarian options in local restaurants, but the restaurateurs have listened to their plight. Veganism is a way of life that may not appeal to those who enjoy a plateful of pot roast beef, however, the vegan menu is varied and the well-seasoned food tastes delicious. Every guest enjoyed the vegan experience and a few guests booked a table for a return visit.

What did we learn from our visit to the local Chinese diner? You don't have to be a vegetarian to enjoy vegan Chinese cuisine.
